First draft and feedback

So this week we weren’t meeting up with Brett as we were working on the first draft of SFX and music for the animation.

Studying the examples given by the animator and the notes we had made at previous meetings, we started to build up a collection of sounds from various sound banks and my own sample packs.

Trying to stay very true to what the animator had asked for we kept to the sounds stereotypical to the example cartoons he’d sent over. This included ‘blinking noises’ whenever a character blinked or moved their eyes, every hand action or movement being accented with a sound such as a ‘whoosh’ or ‘boing’. After doing this for all the characters the animation really started to come to life and helped give a vision as to how it was going to look and sound.

For the backing music we had previously decided to only use it obviously in the very beginning and then only use it to express the mood of the various scenarios throughout the animation to help set the scene. After trying this we straight away knew this was the right choice for this style of animation and felt it worked really well and achieved the right effect we desired!

After sending this to Brett, he and his partner looked through our work making notes on what was enjoyed and what needed to be changed.

We recieved Brett’s feedback and needless to say they seemed happy with the first draft and had a few changes and additions for us (see below).
